December 2010 - One of Ottoman's cria, Simply Serkan won Reserve Champion Fawn Fleece at Whangarei Show. We have had an AAFT GIFT Test done on this fleece at 12 months old (Please note that this does need to be repeated on a later fleece) and the results are excellent showing the low micron we expected with low SD's and great uniformity through the whole blanket. Shoulder sample: AFD 15.7 microns SD 3.2 CV 20.2 CF 100% SD 'Across Sample' 3.02
Mid-side sample: AFD 16.0 microns SD 3.3 CV 20.3 CF 100% SD 'Across Sample' 2.87
Hip Sample: AFD 16.8 microns SD 3.8 CV 22.5 CF 100% SD 'Across Sample' 3.11
The fleece score at Whangarei was excellent for a superfine 1st Fleece that because of shearing date had to be entered as an Intermediate thus reducing any points in the weight category. The marks were very high in all areas with perfect scores for Fineness and Handle but we were hit hard in the weight category. On the animal this fleece amazed everyone with the density for such a fine fleece but it was too fine for the scales! I may have taken too much out when skirting so it may be possible to get that weight up.
Ottoman is a stunning son of the renowned Cedar House Brave Heart (100% Accoyo). Brave Heart lines add density, lowering of the primary fibre diameter, great length (not just in the first fleece), lustre, excellent crimp and the sort of superb soft handle that goes hand in hand with the lowering of the primary fibre diameter.
Ottoman's dam is the type of high quality female able to breed Stud Males. Her sire, ILR Snowmass Escobar, was in a group of stunning alpacas bought by Cedar House from the world famous Snowmass Alpacas in Idaho, USA. Escobar's sire is the legendary Peruvian Hemingway.
With that combination of proven genetics for fineness and density it is no suprise that Ottoman should have the superb uniform fleece he does:

CEDAR HOUSE OTTOMAN PROGENY: As at December 2010 Ottoman has 11 cria registered in New Zealand and only 2 have inherited the white face marking. The rest have been uniform solid colours.
